Buzz Cut refers to one of several short hairstyles that are using only a comb and scissors. It takes its name from the distinctive sound of the clippers, as they cut their hair. Although each of these haircuts is created entirely with clippers can be dramatically different from the final results. There are in fact different kinds of buzz cuts.

One of the most common is known as a crew cut. The back and sides of the hair is cut very short. The drive is short on the crown and may taper from a slightly longer length. This hairstyle fits the shape of the person's head.

A flat top is a modified version of the brush section. The sides and back are cut very short, but where the head begins to round upwards, the hair left. The crown is as short as the sides cut off, creating a distinctive area as a "landing strip" in the middle of the top of the head known. The hair tapered to a greater length in the direction of the front and sides, so that the effect produced is a table, flat surface on the upper side of the head.

To get the haircut new recruits, when the military called a ridge. For this section of the hair cut is less than one-eighth inch over the entire head. A slightly longer version of this style is as Butch. Here the hair in about a quarter of an inch in length will remain.

A brush is cut closely with the crew cut and the flat top used. The sides and back are shortest, while the upper hair is cut to a uniform length of one quarter to one half inch. This haircut conforms to the shape of the head. If done correctly, the hair is out of my head, so that there is a lot like the bristles of a brush looks like.

A very popular cut among U.S. Marines are the high and tight. For this section, the sides and back of the head shaved clean up to the point where the head rounds upward. The hair on the top to a quarter inch or cut shorter, sometimes longer.
